A large share of our nutrient data comes from the Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel 4.0 (BLS 4.0). The BLS is Germany’s official nutrient database and is maintained by the Max Rubner Institute (MRI). In its current version, it includes 7.167 generic foods. The data are based on laboratory analyses from scientific literature, manufacturer information, and international tables, which are evaluated by the MRI and processed using standardized algorithms. We use the BLS as the primary reference for generic foods.

For raw data on branded foods, we are connected to the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN). The GDSN is a worldwide system for standardized, real-time exchange of product master data. Via certified data pools (e.g., GS1), food manufacturers centrally provide their product information, including all details required under the Food Information Regulation (LMIV). We have access to all raw data that are publicly published to the target market Germany.
